Clinical Study in Twin Pregnancy


Abstract
Twin pregnancies are important because of the greater risk to the mother and babies than the singleton pregnancies. In this study an epidemiological review was made of all 167 cases of twin pregnancies who admitted to Kyung Hee University Medical
College Hospital, during 1989~1994.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1) The incidence of twin birth was 1 in 64 births.
2) The predominant age group was 25~29 years. It occupied 50.9%.
3) The predominant parity group was nullipara.
4) The predominant gestational weeks group of twin births was 37~40weeks and preterm labor occurred in 52.7% of the cases.
5) In cases of lst baby, the most frequent baby weight group was 2,000~2.499g(30.5%) followed by 2,500~2,599g(28.7%) and that of 2nd baby was in order of 2,000~2.499g(36.0%) and 2.500~2,999g (22.8%) respectively.
6) In the presentation of twins, both cephalic was most common (45.5%) and cephalic presentation of the lst baby was 83.7%.
7) According to the method of delivery, cesarean section was done at 76.4%.
8) The delivery interval between the lst and 2nd baby in vaginal delivery, below 5 mins was 65.8%, but 5.7% was more than 20 mins.
9) Both male group was 38.9%, and both female group was 38.3%.
10) Diamniotic monochorionic placenta was predominant (57.7%)
11) The most frequent maternal complication during pregnancy was preterm followed by premative rupture of membrane, preeclampsia, anemia.
